Character: Terra.
Canon: Kingdom Hearts.
Version: N/A
Canon Point: Before the final battle of Birth By Sleep.
Age:19.
Gender: Male.
History: Story section contains an extensive summary of his plot.
Personality: I keep telling myself I want to be stronger, more independent...but as soon as I let my heart do the talking, I realize how little I really know myself. And how much I miss them.
Terra is a good-hearted young man with a strong will – as in, very strong. Strong enough to animate an empty suit of armor for more than a decade by sheer force of will. He's deeply invested in becoming stronger, but sometimes loses track of the reason why – to “protect the things that matter”. Failure to be strong or good enough, particularly in the eyes of the man he views as both teacher and father, weighs heavily on him, and his failure to pass the Mark of Mastery exam drives him on in search of strength somewhat impulsively. He has impulsive tendencies overall, which make him easily led around by Xehanort's manipulations, as does his occasional attack of temper. Communication is not a skill he possesses, alas.
What I do, I do for friendship.
He cares deeply for his best friends, so much so that he is even willing to face down the man he regards as both a teacher and a father to protect one of them. Protecting them from Xehanort becomes his driving goal in the endgame. He takes his duty very seriously and considers helping others to be extremely important. He has a strong sense of empathy and reaches out easily to people even when they're different from him, as when he gives Stitch (yes, that Stitch. Just go with it.) credit for wanting to know what a friend is despite Jumba's assertion that such feelings as friendship are beyond Stitch. As you might expect from Kingdom Hearts, he turns out to be right. Terra deals well with children in general, his protective streak tempered by gentleness.
You have to be strong. Strength of heart will carry you through the toughest of trials.
Despite everything he's been through, he retains some optimism, mostly born of stubbornness and faith in his friends: in twelve years or so, after spending all that time trapped in his own body by Xehanort, he still says, “You're going to get shown the door, old man,” with a smile on his face. He retains a strong sense of right and wrong. He has a strong respect for authority (and good manners), but has recently become somewhat disillusioned by someone he was introduced to as an authority turning out to be a supervillain.
Fears: Terra's most powerful fear is losing his friends and being unable to protect them; his most intimate fear is of the darkness lurking in his own heart, which he has been taught to regard as a weakness and character flaw. He fears feeling powerless and not being good enough, or strong enough, to protect what he cares for. He's not quite as afraid of metaphysical darkness outside of himself, but it makes him leery. He's not fond of mind control.
Weaknesses: Boy is gullible. Not ridiculously so, but until a person proves themselves untrustworthy in a very clear-cut way, he tends to trust what they say of themselves and the situation. He isn't very good at problem-solving that doesn't involve hitting something, and working out what to hit can be difficult for him if it's complicated. He's been known to badly fail Will saves vs. mind control. His deep-seated respect for authority can also get him in trouble.
Mundane Strengths/Abilities: Terra is very physically strong and fit, and he's a skilled swordsman. He can ride a motorcycle-like device. He has some woodworking ability.
Sensitivity/Magical Ability: Terra has magical ability which, though not as advanced as his friend Aqua's, is still capable of doing some serious damage. Most of his magic-like abilities come in the form of specialized physical attacks, but he has some healing and magical attacks as well.
Terra's darkness powers deserve a brief aside here. While he possesses inborn Darkness, he has little to no training in or understanding of how to use it effectively, and since he fears and hates his Darkness, he has never done so other than by instinct. It is more likely to activate under emotional stress or severe danger.
On occasion, Terra has had completely context-free visions of the future and/or past. He has never been able to interpret them very well, but they can serve as an indication that a person is or will be important.
He has the ability to summon and wield a Keyblade (see below).
Supply List: Hoo boy. So Terra has this KEYBLADE. It is, to begin with, a magical sword stored in Hammerspace when not in use and summoned by willpower. It cannot be taken from him physically – with a little mental effort, it can always be summoned back into his hand if he's disarmed. Normally. ALSO, the Keyblade functions as the ultimate skeleton key, capable of opening more or less anything with a lock or seal...including the fabric of reality, enabling a Keyblade wielder to travel between worlds. ALSO ALSO, his Keyblade can turn into a glider.
Also stored in Hammerspace is a full suit of armor, which he summons by tapping the piece of armor on his shoulder.
He carries in his pocket an orange star-shaped glass and metal charm called a Wayfinder.
